In November 2016 at the Highways UK conference, Jim spoke passionately about the future of major projects and infrastructure in the post-Brexit world of uncertainty. There’s no question that infrastructure is a key element of economic recovery and national pride – but project management offices are under ever greater pressure to cut costs and demonstrate value. We say: The Quick Wins are over. There’s nothing left to trim back. And people can’t work any harder, either – like tired doctors and drained pilots, more pressure doesn’t yield a better result. A2B Excellence has a rich heritage in civils and construction; but the majority of our work has been in rail. In the past year, we have begun to apply our programme improvement methodologies to highways too – and just in time: Chancellor Philip Hammond has announced over £1bn in spending to improve Britain’s roads. We have been working in partnership with TRL, the UK’s leading independent strategic transport business, to build coherent, forward-thinking highways infrastructure propositions. As long-standing partners in TRL’s highways consortium (also including civil engineering giants, Jacobs and Costain, and environmental consultancy, the Temple Group) we were therefore …

A2B Excellence’s Jim Abbatt was in action today at the Employee Engagement Alliance’s Best Practice Showcase, in front of over 60 HR and management professionals from the UK’s leading companies. Nobody responds to engagement initiatives that are foisted upon them. So, using our long-running and award-winning work at TfL, Jim presented on “How to not ‘do engagement to people’”. Thank you for all the kind comments and tweets… #EElearning @JimAbbatt from @A2BExcellence on engagement: "back people up so they can make their own changes, then get out the way" — Tom Robinson (@Talent_Tom) March 2, 2016 @JimAbbatt making the audience …

nick A2B Presentations, Comment, Homepage Leave a Comment

What happened to ‘jobs for life’? Why do some employees want sabbaticals to go travelling while others crave security? Why don’t companies seem to think further than three months ahead? At A2B Excellence, our work on major projects always starts with the people on the team; and this has led us to understand the motivations of a rapidly changing workforce in a rapidly changing world. This is the presentation that Drew Barritt and Cari Hewer of A2B Excellence first gave at the Yong Rail Professionals meeting in September 2015; we have put it in video form for you here.

At A2B Excellence, we are over the moon to have been invited back to the Young Rail Professionals meet-up group on 10th September. It’s always a pleasure to present at YRP – the Q&A is bracing and everyone is more than prepared to question the status quo – something we advocate and love! At YRP, we’re under the spotlight of some of the brightest brains of tomorrow’s rail industry management. This session was led by A2B stalwarts, Drew Barritt and Cari Hewer, and instead of focusing exclusively on rail industry issues, we looked at broader social challenges in the job market …

A2B has been working with London Underground’s SUP Programme to support their transformation and adoption of a ‘Lean’ mindset.  This involved running a ‘Full Lean’ methodology course providing insights and skills to help attendees improve their area of the business. This ‘Full Lean’ course also provided participants with an opportunity to identify a practical improvement to the business, with the trainers’ support to ensure they not only understand but can apply their skills in the real world.  A ‘Mini Lean’ course was also developed and handed over to in house trainers to support the programme-wide transformation. The ‘Mini Lean’ course covers key items from the ‘Lean’ mindset and focuses …
