We’re delighted to announce that, for the fourth time, an A2B Excellence client has been shortlisted for an Employee Engagement Award – a powerful endorsement of A2B methodologies.
You may remember that we had three nominations and two wins between 2014 and 2017 with our projects for TfL. We took a break in 2018 (nobody’s perfect…) but we’re very pleased to have made the grade for the judges in January 2019, this time for our work with Dragados.
Spanish conglomerate Dragados is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure and Special Projects delivery firms; with a footprint across the globe – but its successful bid for TfL’s Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BCSU) marks the company’s first major into the UK.
The job has required dealing with one of the UK’s busiest stations – in use for all but 4 hours of the day. It’s required catering to the complexities of dealing with some of the City’s most challenging building environments (including a raft of listed buildings and an underground environment that’s not even fully mapped). It’s involved stakeholders from TfL, the Mayor’s Office, a network of contractors and subcontractors and some of the world’s most prestigious businesses as neighbours. Oh, and swingeing penalties for any mismanagement.
So Dragados came to A2B Excellence – because we have a reputation for making rail build projects work efficiently and smoothly; and unlocking the true potential of teams.
We can’t take credit for every outcome; but Dragados isn’t limping over the line like so many infrastructure projects: it’s leading the way in innovation, effective delivery and community service. The project has pioneered the ICE (Innovative Contractor Engagement) format, which brings subcontractors together openly even before a contract is signed. It’s developed its own world-beating innovations, like unique sound/disturbance monitoring tools which can now be sold on to other projects. And it’s won a slew of awards at every level – including those unsung heroes, the banksmen, who have managed thousands of surface-level deliveries in the middle of the City across 18 months without a single complaint from citizens.
BCSU is everything we believe Employee Engagement is about. It creates not just efficiencies, but better people doing better jobs as part of a bigger environment than their own workplaces. We’re hugely pleased that Dragados has been given finalist status – it’s richly deserved and we wish the team every success at the Awards ceremony in January 2019.
